What School Athletics Should Be Like...

Today is one of those days that I will never ever forget as a coach...

I always wanted to coach at a school where:

1) The kids worked hard & gave their best.
2) The kids practiced by themselves outside of school during their club soccer practice since they wanted extra baton passing practice to really get it down.
3) A kid who in 6th grade came out for Track and never ever ran a single lap and now is PR'ing HUGE in every race.
4) The kids cheer for their teammates even when their calves are burning from just racing 3 mins. before.
5) A kid did all 9 events in 2 days...
6) A kid who pulled his hip-flexor in the middle of the 4x100M relay and still ran to not let his team down.
7) A kid who end up going very, very late to THE PARTY of the YEAR with his classmates to run the 800M for his school. (also look at #4)
8) The parents are driving the kids everywhere and supporting their child and other Menlo kids along with the coaches...Thank you Parents!
9) A future USATF National Jr. Olympic Finalist, instead of not running due to a big injury, still does 4 events to help her team.
10) The kids just came to the Track Meet to throw the softball throw and/or did the long jump just to score pts. for their team.
11) Even after a tough loss, the kids learn from it and tell themselves that they'll get better...
***The kids just love the sport and their teammates so much that they hang out together, helping each other in any way possible...

I do coach in such a school...And that's MENLO SCHOOL...We had over 80 kids participating in an event or more for the Middle School in 2 days. And the High School, most, if not all the kids PR'ed and now has the League Championship in their sight!

It's not only about winning, and it's not the coaches...It's all about the KIDS...They are the ones that are competing, cheering, working hard, and stepping out of their comfort zones every day! THEY are the ones that makes us SO PROUD!

Go Knights...
